PARTNERS (Providing Advancement Resources To Nursing Education, Research, and Students)
UTHealth School of Nursing is ranked by US News & World Report as the top nursing school in the Texas Gulf Coast Region. For over twenty years, PARTNERS has supported the mission of UTHealth School of Nursing. In 1994, a group was convened to brainstorm ways the community could support the school. I am honored to be leading that group this year by serving as 2015-2016 Board Chairman.
From new graduate nurses to advanced practice nurses to expert faculty, PARTNERS touches every part of the UTHealth School of Nursing. PARTNERS provides student scholarships, endowed professorships, and faculty research grants. Funding of this sort enables the School to recruit the best and brightest. PARTNERS funded the Student Lounge which provides a space for study and student interaction.
In 2012, our organization contributed an extensive collection of our historical documents to the John P.McGovern Historical Research Center at the Texas Medical Center Library. One of the fun activities in which we participate in is providing the traditional UTHealth School of Nursing pin to each undergraduate nursing graduate.
PARTNERS has accomplished much in two decades; we plan to build upon that success. We hope you will join us in ensuring that the UTHealth School of Nursing remains among the top nursing schools in Texas.

Since 1994, through its fund-raising events and individual gifts, PARTNERS has awarded over 100 full-tuition scholarships and funded four endowed professorships. The PARTNERS Endowed Scholarship is valued over $1.5 million. PARTNERS scholars include those students enrolled in the School of Nursing academic programs. All scholarship recipients are recognized at the PARTNERS Annual Fall Coffee.
PARTNERS provides research grants to assist faculty in their pilot projects. PARTNERS has awarded a total of 45 faculty research grants since 1996. Grants are awarded each year for pilot projects that will lead to the development of research grant proposals to be submitted for major extramural funding. These grants provide new investigators with an opportunity to begin developing a research program and experienced investigators with an opportunity to further develop their research interests.
The PARTNERS dedicated lounge in the School of Nursing building provides students with an environmentally state-of-the-art setting for studying or gathering with friends and is available to all students in the UT Health Science Center at Houston. The PARTNERS Student Services committee provides a variety of snacks and refreshments to students on exam days in the lounge. PARTNERS also provides the traditional School of Nursing pins to all Bachelor of Science students upon graduation at a special pinning ceremony.
