PARTNERS (Providing Advancement Resources for Nursing Education, Research, and Students)

PARTNERS aids the mission of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Nursing by providing academic resources not otherwise available. PARTNERS contributes a full scholarship for each of eight degree areas, supports the faculty through research grants, and has established four Endowed Professorships. PARTNERS also provides a sterling silver UTHealth School of Nursing pin to each baccalaureate student at graduation. The PARTNERS Student Lounge offers a space for study and student interaction. PARTNERS embarks on its 20th year with pride in its past achievements and in anticipation of both celebration and endeavor in the coming year.

Just prior to this anniversary year, PARTNERS donated its extensive collection of brochures, minutes, invitations, photographs, and other papers to the John P. McGovern Historical Research Center at the Texas Medical Center Library. The PARTNERS collection represents a rich and historically noteworthy contribution to the Library’s archival holdings and signifies PARTNERS commitment to research. The materials housed in the PARTNERS collection can be accessed by researchers investigating diverse fields such as philanthropy, nursing history, the interaction of the community with nursing, and Medical Center history.

Funds for PARTNERS are raised through a Fall membership drive and our notable Spring Luncheon. We hope that you will join this purposeful and unique group of nurses and community members as we seek to enhance our membership in support of nursing.

We encourage you to join us this year as we celebrate 20 years of commitment to nursing excellence!

With warm regards,

Adrian Melissinos, Ph.D., R.N.

Scholarships and Endowments

Since 1994, through its fund-raising events and individual gifts, PARTNERS has awarded over 100 full-tuition scholarships and funded four endowed professorships. The PARTNERS Endowed Scholarship is valued at $1.6 million. PARTNERS scholars include those students enrolled in the School of Nursing academic programs. All scholarship recipients are recognized at the PARTNERS Annual Fall Coffee.

Faculty Research Grants

PARTNERS provides research grants to assist faculty in their pilot projects. PARTNERS has awarded a total of 45 faculty research grants since 1996. Grants are awarded each year for pilot projects that will lead to the development of research grant proposals to be submitted for major extramural funding. These grants provide new investigators with an opportunity to begin developing a research program and experienced investigators with an opportunity to further develop their research interests.

Student Services

The PARTNERS dedicated lounge in the School of Nursing building provides students with an environmentally state-of-the-art setting for studying or gathering with friends and is available to all students in the UT Health Science Center at Houston. The PARTNERS Student Services committee provides a variety of snacks and refreshments to students on exam days in the lounge. PARTNERS also provides the traditional School of Nursing pins to all Bachelor of Science students upon graduation at a special pinning ceremony.
