Our vision at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston is lead the advancement of health and high-quality health care for all. The rich diversity of Greater Houston area offers both opportunities and challenges to achieving that vision. 

Approximately 60% of our students come from underrepresented groups, bringing with them experiences and perspectives that will shape nursing education, practice, and research in the decades to come as we work to create a more equitable access to high-quality health care throughout our community and the nation.

Leading DEI

As an emergency nurse practitioner, Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Elda Ramirez, PhD, ENP-C, FAAN, knows that illness and injury don’t discriminate. Promoting opportunities for inclusion and understanding among health care professionals is an important step in eliminating inequalities in the treatment patients receive.

Three veterans earn 2023 Rodeo scholarships

Three of our Pacesetter Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students who will receive this year’s scholarships from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.TM Meghan Faught-McWain, Ernesto Treviño, and Jeff P. Thottukandathil are all U.S. military veterans who plan on working in critical care nursing.
