Ahn Named Isla Carroll Turner Chair in Gerontological Nursing

(November 13, 2020) Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Research Hyochol “Brian” Ahn, PhD, MSN, ANP-BC, FAAN, has been named the Isla Carroll Turner Chair in Gerontological Nursing at the Cizik School of Nursing of UTHealth effective November 1. 

“Dr. Ahn’s innovative program of research into nonpharmacological pain management technologies is focused on enhancing the health and independence of older adults, including the $2.4 million grant he received this year from the National Institute of Nursing Research,” said Dean Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, MSN, RN, FAAN. “We are grateful the Isla Carroll Turner Friendship Trust for endowing this chair that will enable Dr. Ahn for further his important work.” 

Dr. Ahn joined the Cizik School of Nursing in 2016, was named Assistant Dean for Research last month, and was recently inducted into the American Academy of Nursing’s 2020 Class of Fellows. He was previously the Theodore J. and Mary E. Trumble Professor in Aging Research. Dr. Ahn earned his PhD in Nursing with an emphasis on adult and elderly care as well as multiple graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Clinical and Translational Science, Aging and Geriatric Practice, and Nursing from the University of Florida. 

Established in 1956 by philanthropist Isla Carroll Sterling Turner, the trust that established the endowed chair supports services benefiting the elderly throughout Texas.
