Doncy Eapen, PhD, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is a Family Nurse Practitioner certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her research interest is on interpersonal violence that affects the health of women and children and maternal factors that influence birth outcomes. She earned her BSN and MSN from Manipal College of Nursing in India. Her experience includes working as a Nurse Educator in the High Institute of Nursing, Ministry of Public Health in Doha, Qatar. After immigrating to the United States, she completed her post-master’s in Family Nurse Practitioner and Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. She joined the faculty of the Cizik School of Nursing in September 2018. Her doctoral study, “A Qualitative Description of Pregnancy-Related Social Support Experiences of Low-Income Women with Low Birth Weight Infants in the Midwestern United States” received several awards including the Crighton Award for research among vulnerable populations, Dr. Valmi Delfino De Sousa Award of Excellence for innovation in nursing research from the University of Kansas School of Nursing, and outstanding dissertation award by Midwest Nursing Research Society.

Dr. Eapen was selected as Academy of Violence and Abuse (AVA) Scholar in 2021, and through this program, she is conducting a research project exploring pregnancy-related interpersonal violence among women experiencing homelessness. Her other research project includes Positive Parenting: Empowering Young Mothers Experiencing Homelessness with a History of Inter-personal Violence to Improve Parenting Strategies funded through Rockefeller University Heilbrunn Family Center for Research Nursing (HFCRN) Scholars in 2022.
