Barbara K Bailes, EdD, RN, CS, NP-C
Dr. Bailes has been a faculty member teaching in the Nurse Practitioner Program for many years. She has been a nurse practitioner for approximately 15 years. Her clinical interests include intra-operative nursing, drug addiction, gerontology and chronic disease, especially diabetes. She has held a number of faculty practice positions: St. Luke’s Hospital, Senior – a facility for indigent addictive persons, the Geriatric Clinic at Ben Taube and at the University of Houston Downtown Health Clinic providing care to university students.
Dr. Bailes has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau for many years. She has authored many articles and has been a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. While at Senior she participated in a 3 year faculty grant that focused on alcohol and drug addictions.
Dr. Bailes also facilitated a 3 year HERSA grant for a new Adult Nurse Practitioner Program for the University Of Oklahoma School Of Nursing.
Dr. Bailes was also a participant in an AMDA that focused on palliative care for elderly persons.
She has also maintained a practice at a clinic for the working poor that provides care to almost every type of acute and chronic diseases. Dr. Bailes has maintained her excellence in the classroom and in clinical practice and has presented many nurse practitioner students.
