Chukwudi C Ekwemalor, PhD, MBA, RN-BC
Dr. Ekwemalor has practiced nursing at both the Licensed Vocational and Registered Nurse levels in the last 12 years in various settings, but mostly as a certified psychiatric and mental health nurse at various psychiatric facilities in Houston. He left the UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center, where he worked as a staff nurse and relief supervisor, to embark on full-time doctoral studies in Sept. 2013. Ekwemalor was one of two Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholars in the second cohort of UTHealth’s philanthropically supported Accelerated PhD in Nursing program. Receiving his doctoral degree in Aug. 2016, Ekwemalor’s dissertation was: “Treatment Recidivism in Adolescents with Mental Illness: A Focused Applied Medical Ethnography.”
Ekwemalor earned a master’s degree in Nursing Education at UTHealth in 2012, after graduating with his BSN from Prairie View A&M University School of Nursing. He also holds an MBA with a major in Financial Management, which followed his undergraduate studies in his native country before his immigration to the United States.
