Dr. Constance Johnson is Professor Emerita at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Cizik School of Nursing and is Emerita faculty at Duke University. Dr. Johnson earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Connecticut and her master’s and PhD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Biomedical Informatics. From 2001-2003, she was a National Library of Medicine Fellow. In 2006, she joined the faculty at Duke University School of Nursing, where she additionally held a joint appointment in the School of Medicine. While at Duke, Dr. Johnson led the Informatics Program in the School of Nursing. In 2016, she joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing as the Associate Dean for Research, which she held through 2025. She also held a joint appointment at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Biomedical Informatics.
Her research interests included human-computer interaction and how presentation of information impacts health-related decisions in those with chronic diseases. Specifically, she focused on using online biobehavioral interventions to impact self-management of chronic diseases. As a Principal Investigator, she received funding from several NIH institutes, AHRQ, and other funding sources. Her program of research was a result of years of experience in informatics and disease prevention and health promotion.
