Colleen Manning is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Assistant Professor of Graduate Studies at the Cizik School of Nursing. Her bedside nursing career began in 2004 working on the medical-surgical floors. After obtaining her BSN in 2006, she pursued travel nursing and shortly after began work as an ICU nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 2010, she briefly returned to travel nursing then moved to Houston in 2011 where she worked per diem in the CV-ICU at Memorial Hermann Southwest. She obtained her MSN as an FNP in 2013 and completed her DNP in 2024, both from Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston. Colleen’s DNP project focused on development of an American Sign Language video to increase advance care planning engagement among Deaf adults. Her clinical experience includes practicing primary care at IKP Family Medicine since 2014.

Clinical/Research Focus
Area of interests include improving access to care and health information for Deaf ASL users and helping providers of care deliver quality care to Deaf patients and their families. Educating new graduate nurse practitioners about the value-based care model used in primary care and ways to avoid burnout among primary care nurse practitioners.
