Dr. Colleen Manning is an Assistant Professor at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston. She brings over two decades of clinical experience to her academic role, integrating her practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with a deep commitment to educating the next generation of advanced practice nurses.
Dr. Manning began her nursing career in 2004, working across various acute care settings, including medical-surgical, telemetry, and critical care units. She also gained valuable experience as a travel nurse before relocating to Houston in 2011. She earned both her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, completing her doctoral degree in 2024.
Her DNP project centered on the development of an American Sign Language video aimed at increasing engagement in advance care planning among Deaf adults—a reflection of her commitment to accessible care for the Deaf community.
Since 2014, Dr. Manning has practiced primary care at IKP Family Medicine, where she continues to provide comprehensive care to patients. Her clinical interests include chronic disease management, preventive health, and patient education. She is passionate about empowering individuals to achieve optimal health outcomes through evidence-based, compassionate care.

Clinical/Research Focus
Area of interests include improving access to care and health information for Deaf ASL users and helping providers of care deliver quality care to Deaf patients and their families. Educating new graduate nurse practitioners about the value-based care model used in primary care and ways to avoid burnout among primary care nurse practitioners.
