Carolyn K. Tran, PhD, DNP, APRN, GNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is an assistant professor in the Department of Graduate Studies at Cizik School of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). She earned her BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD at Cizik School of Nursing. Dr. Tran’s clinical experience covers more than 19 years and includes consultation-liaison psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and pain management, with a focus on mental health burden in the older adult population. Dr. Tran finds her work in consultant-liaison psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry both intellectually challenging and deeply rewarding. In her clinical practice, she provides care for patients with complex psychiatric needs at one of the largest academic hospitals in the Texas Medical Center. This multidisciplinary environment fosters collaboration across multiple specialties, enhances learning, advances the standard of care, and supports scholarship and leadership. Dr. Tran believes in intentional partnerships among interdisciplinary healthcare teams, patients, and communities, which are essential to improving healthcare experiences and achieving better health outcomes. She is also passionate about mentoring and empowering the next generation of nurse practitioners.
