Elda Ramirez received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center and her Pre Nursing from the University of Houston. Elda Ramirez joined the UTHHSC faculty in 1994 as a Clinical Instructor in the Acute and Continuing Care Department.
Elda Ramirez is an experienced educator and clinician. In collaboration with The University of Texas-Houston and the Medical School, Ms. Ramirez developed the animal lab which enables students to learn life saving procedures as well as establishing the first cadaver lab for the School of Nursing in which graduate students are able to see and touch true human anatomy. Ms. Ramirez created ties with emergency medicine departments and physicians through educating the physician about the advantages of having an emergency nurse practitioner with the extensive skill acquired clinically in this program.

Ms. Ramirez spends 60% of her time at the university in clinical practice. She is contracted with a physician group, Emergency Consultants, Incorporated, and practices in five of the facilities they provide emergency services for. Many of these facilities are also used for student clinical sites. The physician group also utilizes Ms. Ramirez as the Education Coordinator for the mid-level providers that they have employed.
Ms. Ramirez has been recognized for her clinical expertise by the Houston Chapter of Emergency Nursing Association and the National Honor Society Sigma Theta Tau Zeta Pi. She has been recognized by Health Week magazine as an outstanding nurse clinician. Moreover, through her practice, Ms. Ramirez has been developing a research project to examine outcomes of nurse practitioners in the ED.
