Deidra Carroll Coleman, DrPH, is a postdoctoral research fellow at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston. As an early-career professional, Dr. Coleman gained extensive experience in public health research, serving in program management roles with the Religion and Public Life Program, Rice University and Cizik School of Nursing's Center for Nursing Research and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, Education, and Research. Her research has focused on health disparities and minority health. Her dissertation examined the relation between religiosity and human papillomavirus (HPV) uptake among urban, Black and Latinx families. Her upcoming project, “Determinants of mental health morbidity among LGB youth of color: A mixed methods study of intersectional perspectives,” will expand an established body of research demonstrating the deleterious effects of minority stress on the mental health outcomes of LGB and racial/ethnic minority individuals.

Clinical/Research Focus
Dr. Coleman’s research interests include adolescent health, sexual health, health equity, social determinants of health, and health education/behavioral sciences, substance use.
