News from Cizik School of Nursing

Program helps incoming students learn the ropes.

At Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, faculty members and graduate students are exploring many facets of HIV and earning recognition for their efforts.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, in 2020, and completed its ROTC program to become a commissioned officer into the Texas Army National Guard. In her current role, she helps plan medical logistics for her unit.

Students, employees, and supporters gathered  to celebrate Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.

LGBTQ+ youth face many obstacles accessing health care services, and providers must overcome a multitude of challenges to build the trust needed to keep them coming back for the care they need. 

Assistant Professor Vuong Prieto, PhD, RN, CHSE, and Instructor Brandi Virgin, MSN, RN, received the first Dean’s Innovation in Education Award to help create a simulation accurately representing a busy NICU with multiple patients.
