BSN to DNP track now open for Nursing Leadership and Administration
Applications being accepted for Fall 2027
Prospective students with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) can now apply directly to the Nursing Leadership and Administration track of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.
The new BSN to DNP track will enable nurses to prepare for all levels of leadership – from the bedside to the boardroom – without requiring a master’s degree. A post-master’s option will remain available as well.
“The Nursing Leadership and Administration program cultivates the ability to analyze organizational structures, lead change initiatives, and improve care delivery,” said Linda Cole, DNP, APRN, CCNS, CNE, FCNS, director of the DNP program. “The BSN to DNP option allows nurses to progress seamlessly from foundational clinical knowledge to advanced leadership practice.”
Coursework is offered online with on-site practice experiences as students develop, implement, and evaluate a DNP scholarly project that addresses real-world systems or practice challenges. The curriculum emphasizes organizational leadership, healthcare finance, policy, data management, strategic planning, and population health. Students learn to lead teams and work effectively across disciplines to enhance outcomes and operational performance.
Applications are now being accepted to the BSN to DNP track for the Fall 2027 semester, and spring admission will be offered beginning in 2028. For the post-master’s program, students are accepted in the spring and fall semesters.
“This transition to the BSN to DNP level reflects our commitment to preparing students to realize their highest potential in practice and leadership,” said Susan Ruppert, PhD, APRN, FNP-C, ANP-BC, FCCM, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, associate dean for graduate studies. “Its hybrid design enables students from all over Texas to advance their education and careers.”
Leadership education at Cizik School of Nursing is led by Debbie Cline, DNP, RN, CNL, OCN, NEA-BC, who directs both the Nursing Leadership and Administration Track and the Debbie Adams Leadership Academy. Her certifications include Nurse Executive Advanced from the American Nurse Credentialing Center and Clinical Nurse Leader from the Commission on Nurse Certification.
