The two-part Cardiovascular Advanced Practice Series is designed to prepare nurse practitioners and physician assistants to take the Certified Cardiovascular Knowledge Examination offered by the American College of Cardiology® (ACC). This online, self-paced series provides didactic instruction to support in-person clinical fellowships and training. The information presented is in accordance with the 2020 cardiovascular advanced provider knowledge competencies defined by the ACC and American Heart Association. 

Advanced practice providers may register for Part 1 in its entirety or for any of the individual modules separately. Courses will be accessible for one year after registration.

Coming Soon: Part 2 will provide more in-depth information about specialty areas such as heart failure, congenital heart disease, and cardio-oncology. Watch for details to come.

Part 1 – All Courses: $2,100

Registering for Part 1 gives advanced practice providers access to all 11 three-hour courses that provide a comprehensive overview of cardiovascular care. Students earn a total of 33 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development. Register now via Canvas Catalog.


Individual Courses: $250 each

Students may choose to register for individual courses that focus on specific topics related to cardiovascular care. Each three-hour course provides three contact hours of nursing continuing professional development. This course includes the anatomy of the cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular systems by providing a comprehensive review of the functional cardiac anatomy and physiologic concepts. Provides 3 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development. Register for Part 1 - Course 1.

This course provides independent online learning activities designed to provide basic knowledge of cardiovascular genomic terminology and application to cardiovascular risks and disease evaluation. Provides 3 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development. Register for Part 1 - Course 2.

This course includes the effects of diabetes mellitus, obesity, lipid disorders, and hypertension as they relate to the risk factors and risk scores for determining the probability of developing cardiovascular disease, and preventative intervention. Register for Part 1 - Course 3.

This course will provide participants with knowledge of noninvasive imaging for the diagnosis and evaluation of cardiac disease by providing indications, interpretation, and management of the patient undergoing various imaging. Register for Part 1 - Course 4.

This course will provide participants with knowledge of the indications, patient preparation, techniques, and interpretation of diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures. Register for Part 1 - Course 5.

This course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge of the risk, pathophysiology diagnosis, and management of the clinical manifestations of coronary artery disease. Register for Part 1 - Course 6.

This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the epidemiology, pathophysiology diagnosis, and management of rheumatic heart disease, mitral valvular disease, and aortic valvular disease. Register for Part 1 - Course 7.

This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the epidemiology, pathophysiology diagnosis, and management of the clinical manifestations of aortic valvular disease, primary and secondary tricuspid and pulmonic valve disease, and management of infectious endocarditis. This course will provide participants with knowledge of the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of major arterial systems, venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism.  Register for Part 1 - Course 9.

This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the indications for selected cardiac surgeries, cardiac anatomy of the heart, relevant surrounding structures, and surgical approaches to access these structures. Register for Part 1 - Course 10.

This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the indications for preoperative and postoperative management as well as potential complications common to all patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Register for Part 1 - Course 11.
