Dr. Sheryl Malone-Thomas, DNP, RN, FNP-BC has been a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years and a Family Nurse Practitioner for more than 21 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Lamar University and a Master's of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Degree from Houston Baptist University. She also received a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA in 2012. She comes to UTHSC from the Houston Health Department where she was both a clinical provider and the Chief Nurse for the Bureau of HIV, STD, and Viral Hepatitis Prevention. Dr. Thomas has had an extensive career including pediatrics, pediatric oncology, adult hepatology/liver transplant, healthcare for the homeless, primary care, and teaching Associate Degree Nursing students for one of the local community colleges. She has presented on the local, state, national, and international levels in the area of HIV/STI prevention. Her published work in the Journal of AIDS includes use of a urine test to distinguish discrepancies between self-reported adherence and a biomarker adherence.
