Mahrokh "Mitzy" Kobeissi is an Associate Professor at UTHealth Houston Cizik School of Nursing, where she brings extensive experience as both a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and a graduate-level nursing educator. As the founder of Mitzy Med, PLLC, she has been a leader in telehealth and house call services since 2016, using technology to improve healthcare delivery. Dr. Kobeissi is recognized nationally for her work in pre-pandemic nurse practitioner telehealth, earning recognition from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Patient Safety Network and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) SmartBrief. She is a Certified Telehealth Professional by the American Heart Association (CPAHA).
Dr. Kobeissi earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Texas Health Science Center, where she received multiple scholarships and the Faculty Award of Excellence. Her expertise in online education and virtual simulation has been essential in adapting nursing education to the evolving healthcare landscape, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has advanced online teaching methodologies, including live synchronous and asynchronous virtual simulations and telehealth integration in graduate nursing education. Additionally, Dr. Kobeissi has been a key player in integrating Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems into nursing curricula and has served as a Superuser on the Epic EHR Review Board. Her recent scholarship explores EHR usability and the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare education and practice.
Dr. Kobeissi combines clinical experience, technological expertise, and educational innovation in her teaching methodologies. She is dedicated to preparing the next generation of nurse practitioners for the dynamic field of healthcare.

Clinical/Research Focus
Dr. Kobeissi’s research and clinical focus are on leveraging technology (telehealth, EHRs, artificial intelligence) to enhance safety, equity, and quality in healthcare delivery. Her nationally recognized work aims to shape policy and practice in telehealth, with a focus on:
- Developing and implementing telehealth safety protocols.
- Addressing health equity issues in virtual care settings.
- Integrating telehealth competencies into nurse practitioner education.
- Exploring innovative applications of technology in healthcare, including artificial intelligence.
Her scholarship includes peer-reviewed publications in top journals such as The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety and the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Kobeissi’s contributions to telehealth policy and infrastructure have been instrumental in setting best practices for nurse practitioners.
Dr. Kobeissi actively serves national organizations, including the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and The American Heart Association (AHA). She serves on the NONPF Telehealth Committee and chairs the Telehealth Standardized Patient Subcommittee, where she contributes to developing telehealth standards for graduate nurse practitioner education.
