Brady honored by Good Samaritan Foundation

Veronica Brady, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FADCES, BC-ADM, CDCES, was honored for a second time with a bronze-level award by the Good Samaritan Foundation at its 21st Annual Excellence in Nursing Awards Luncheon on October 15.

Brady, an assistant professor at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, was also named a bronze award winner in 2023 and recently received the 2025 Visionary Award from Texas Nurse Practitioners.

In her nomination, Joyce Ju,  DNP, RN, FNP-BC, CNE, cited Brady’s multiple certifications as a family nurse practitioner, HIV certified registered nurse, diabetes educator, and advanced diabetes management practitioner.

“Dr. Brady has excelled in her role within the research department at the Cizik School of Nursing, currently serving as principle or co-investigator on three extramural grants aimed at improving health outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes and HIV,” said Ju, an assistant professor in the Department of Undergraduate Studies. “Her active involvement in research, teaching, and service reflects her expertise and professional impact on the nursing profession.”

Brady’s recent research projects received funding from the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health and the Texas Development Center for AIDS Research. She is the 2025 board president of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists and is active in several other national professional organizations.

She served as a nurse and nurse practitioner in several hospitals and practices in Michigan before moving to Houston. Here, she worked in the endocrine neoplasia and hormonal disorders department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Science Center and earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Cizik School of Nursing. She then taught at the University of Nevada-Reno before joining the Cizik School of Nursing faculty in 2019. She also maintains an active clinical practice at MD Anderson.

Brady earned her Master of Science in Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Detroit from the University of Detroit-Mercy and Wayne State University, respectively.
