Santa Maria appointed to AAN Science Advisory Council Cizik School of Nursing dean to serve two-year term
Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, MSN, RN, ACRN, PHNA-BC, dean of Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, has been appointed as one of nine inaugural members of the Science Advisory Council of the American Academy of Nursing.
Santa Maria will serve a two-year term, through May 31, 2028.
The American Academy of Nursing established AAN Science in October 2025 as part of an initiative to expand its impact in nursing science, an area membership identified as the profession’s top priority. The council will provide thought leadership and advise the AAN board of directors on trends in science policy, funding, workforce capacity, technology, and other issues.
“I am honored and eager to serve the AAN at a time when the importance of nursing science and the challenges facing nurse scientists have never been greater,” said Santa Maria, the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair in Nursing Education Leadership and The Jane and Robert Cizik Distinguished Chair at Cizik School of Nursing.
