Cheatham named DNP program co-director

Assistant Professor Latarsha S. Cheatham, DNP, RN-BC, FNP-BC, is stepping up to serve as interim co-director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston effective October 1.

Cheatham will assume primary responsibility for the post-master’s DNP track, a role previously held by Associate Professor Lisa Boss, PhD, RN, who is transitioning to part-time status. Assistant Professor Kathleen Siders, DNP, RN, will continue as co-director of the DNP program with primary responsibility for the BSN to DNP track.

“We are grateful to Dr. Boss for her capable leadership for the past three years, and to Dr. Cheatham for taking this opportunity to grow her career and build on our tradition of excellence in graduate education,” said Dean Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, MSN, RN. Boss had served as DNP director on an interim basis for two years prior to being named co-director in September 2021.

Cheatham joined Cizik School of Nursing’s faculty in 2018 after earning a DNP at the school, where she received the Joanne V. Hickey DNP Scholars Award in 2017. She continued her education here by completing the post-master’s program in Nursing Education in 2020. She has most recently practiced at Pearland Family Wellness Clinic and worked for several years at CHI Baylor St. Luke’s Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Previously, she served as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in various settings after earning her Master of Science in Nursing as an FNP from Prairie View A&M School of Nursing. Cheatham holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dillard University in New Orleans.
