About Our Ceremonies

We celebrate our graduates’ accomplishments three times each year. Family and friends may attend in person or watch the ceremonies via livestream. Students will receive a link for virtual viewing prior to the event that they may share. Please note that loud noisemakers, including air horns, and helium balloons are not allowed at our ceremonies.

Spring Commencement

Students who graduated from all programs during the most recent Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters are eligible to participate in our annual commencement ceremony. Tickets are required for all guests over age 2. Graduating students will receive an email prior to the event with details on ticketing, parking, etc.

Summer and Fall Pinning Ceremonies

Undergraduate students completing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in the Summer and Fall semesters celebrate at ceremonies in which they receive nursing pins. Both Pacesetter and RN to BSN students may participate and will receive an email with details prior to the event.

Ceremony Details

  • Pinning Ceremonies
    • Students participating in the ceremony should arrive an hour before the ceremony.
    • Students are to wear business casual attire. Students do not wear regalia, honor cords, or academic cords from previous universities.
    • Nursing Pins – All undergraduates students (RN-BSN and Pacesetters) will be given nursing pins by the PARTNERS organization.
    • Diplomas will be available from the Student Affairs Office six weeks after graduation.
    • A designated photographer will take photos of all graduates crossing the stage.
  • Commencement Ceremonies
    • All guests over 2 years of age are required to have a ticket to enter the venue.
    • Students participating in the commencement ceremony should arrive two hours before the ceremony.
    • All students are required to wear regalia (cap, gown, etc.) to the ceremony. Undergraduates wear a black cap and gown. Masters, post-masters, and doctoral students are to wear a cap and gown. MSNs and Post Masters are to wear their hoods. PhD and DNP graduates will carry their hoods and be hooded during the ceremony.
    • Students may order regalia invitations, graduation rings, diploma frames, and certificate frames through the Graduate Affairs website.
    • Students in all programs wear their tassels on the right.
    • Students are not allowed to alter their caps, gowns, tassels, or hoods in any way.
    • Nursing Pins – All undergraduates students will be given nursing pins by the PARTNERS organization.
    • Students in Sigma Theta Tau may wear their STT honor cords.
    • Student representatives in Student InterCouncil may wear the white sashes.
    • UTSNA students who have earned service points and been given blue cords may wear those.
    • Student Government Officers may wear their SGO cords.
    • Students should wear business casual attire under their regalia.
    • No flip flops, gum chewing, personal pets (real or fake), stick horses, feather boas, etc.
    • Undergraduate students who are graduating with honors will be given gold cords to wear. Summa Cum Laude 3.90 - 4.00; Magna Cum Laude 3.70 - 3.89; Cum Laude 3.50 - 3.69 (Cumulative GPAs are NOT rounded up)
    • There is no place to safely store personal items during the ceremony. Therefore, students are not allowed to bring purses and are not allowed to process with their purses.
    • A designated photographer will take photos of all graduates crossing the stage.
