Johnson, Brady receive 2024 Values Award
Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston honored the inspirational work and attitudes of 2024 Values Award winners Allegra Johnson and Veronica Brady during the school’s holiday party on Dec. 16.
Established in 2023, the Values Award recognizes employees who consistently demonstrate Cizik School of Nursing values: integrity, innovation, inclusivity, collaboration, respect, and excellence. Each year, one faculty and one staff member are selected from among employees nominated by their colleagues.
Allegra Johnson, Senior Administrative Manager
A 19-year veteran of the nursing school, Johnson helps keep the Department of Graduate Studies running smoothly. She is fondly regarded throughout the organization for her courtesy, professionalism, and strong sense of personal responsibility.
“Allegra Johnson exemplifies excellence in communication, teamwork, and integrity, making her an indispensable member of her team,” Johnson’s nominator wrote. “Her dedication to team goals is unmatched. She prioritizes collective success, supports her colleagues in meeting deadlines, and fosters a sense of unity through her enthusiasm and inclusiveness. Her exceptional work ethic and ability to deliver high-quality results, even under pressure, have significantly impacted her team’s success.”
Johnson was also lauded for her commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and inspiring leadership and integrity.
Veronica Brady, PhD, FNP-BC, FADCES, BC-ADM, CDCES
An assistant professor in the Department of Research, Brady is known for her kindness and generosity as well as her unwavering commitment to health equity for underserved populations.
“Dr. Brady embodies the essence of excellence, inclusivity, and compassion in nursing,” wrote her nominator. “She uplifts everyone around her with thoughtful gestures, heartfelt encouragement, and a genuine passion for nurturing others. Her mentorship has left an indelible mark on students and colleagues alike, reminding us all why we do this important work.”
Brady’s collaborative efforts include developing initiatives to teach unbiased care for vulnerable populations, writing impactful grant proposals, and co-authoring manuscripts that address critical health care disparities. Her national contributions to the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and her focus on social determinants of health highlight her tireless work to advance nursing practice and promote equity.
Presenting the awards were Values Award Committee Chair Ychlindria Wyckoff, manager of patient business services at UT Health Services, and Chair-Elect Bryan Hillier, assistant direct of learning resources. In addition to introducing the winners, they recognized other nominees.
