Thinking Globally, Learning Locally
The Global Health Fellowship is a one-credit-hour independent study opportunity for Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.
The fellowship pairs faculty-led seminars on refugee and immigrant health with hands-on community outreach in the Houston metropolitan area, allowing students to build global health competencies without requiring international travel. The fellowship runs alongside students’ current coursework, and students will receive a stipend to cover travel costs to community partner sites.
Full-time BSN students may apply after their first semester. The application process includes submitting a résumé, essay, and short video describing the student’s background and interest in global health. A GPA of at least 3.2 is required for this selective and competitive program.

The Global Health Nursing Fellowship is supported by the UTHealth Houston Office of Global Health Initiative Global Health Grant.
