Prieto, Lyons take on Sim Lab leadership roles
Assistant Professors Vuong T. Prieto and Mandi M. Lyons have been appointed to newly created positions as part of efforts to gain accreditation, enhance learning experiences, and encourage innovation for the Simulation and Clinical Performance Laboratory at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.
Prieto, PhD, RN, CHSE, serves as simulation education faculty director. She will focus on developing policies and procedures, quality improvement, and providing training and professional development for faculty and staff on simulation standards and best practices.
Lyons, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, CHSE, serves as standardized patient program coordinator. She will work on training the actors who play patients during simulations and will help faculty to develop more realistic, authentic simulation experiences for students.
Both faculty members will work with Sim Lab Director Eric Christensen to oversee and document adherence to the core standards required for accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Prieto and Lyons both taught as clinical instructors at Cizik School of Nursing before earning their doctoral degrees and joining the faculty. Lyons earned her DNP in 2019, and Prieto graduated with her PhD in 2020.
