Associate Professor Daphne Hernandez, PhD, MSEd, FAAHB, is the primary investigator on a Feeding America grant that is studying food pantry usage in Houston, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Clinical rotations at The Fetal Center at Children’s Memorial Hermann gave Pacesetter BSN students Kennedy Temple and Alyssa Chapa the rare opportunity to watch surgeons operate on fetuses in the mother’s womb.

Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston community health nursing students were on high alert recently for a daylong “SAFER” simulation jam packed emergency response scenarios. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students practiced physical and psychological first aid, CPR/AED skills, mass casualty search and triage, and active shooter response.

Haley DeLaGarza, DNP, CRNA, is stepping up to become the program director of Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston’s highly rated nurse anesthesia program, and Amy Blok, DNP, CRNA, will become the program’s assistant director effective July 16, 2022.

A second round of seed grant funding will soon be awarded for collaborative interprofessional projects researching aging-in-place technologies in the Smart Apartment at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.

Cizik School of Nursing Assistant Professor Emily Barr, PhD, RN, CPNP-PC, CNM, will use a seed grant from the Texas Development Center for AIDS Research to study whether and how telehealth can support young adults living with HIV as they transition from pediatric to adult care.
