New cardiovascular advanced practice courses Certificate series delves into specialty areas
Nine new courses are now available in the Cardiovascular Advanced Practice Series at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston that provide nurse practitioners and physicians assistants with in-depth instruction in specialty areas including tissue oxygenation, heart failure, cardio-oncology, and congenital heart disease in adults.
Initially launched in 2024, the online, self-paced continuing education series is designed to prepare advanced practice providers to take the American College of Cardiology® Certified Cardiovascular Knowledge Examination (CCKE).* Series 1 provides a comprehensive overview of cardiovascular care, while the new Series 2 delves deeper into the diagnosis and treatment of specific conditions.
“These two continuing professional development series provide robust didactic content that supports hands-on training and fellowships offered by many hospital systems,” said Jessica Coviello, DNP, ANP-BC, FAAN, associate dean of faculty development and the Patricia L. Starck/PARTNERS Endowed Professor in Nursing. “Series 2 builds on the knowledge and skills learned in Series 1 to prepare advanced practice providers to work in a variety of specialized settings and practices.”
Series 1 consists of 11 courses that each provide three nursing professional development contact hours. The nine courses in Series 2 vary from one to five contact hours.**
Each series costs $2,100 for students who sign up for all of the courses offered within it. Registration cost for individual courses is $250 apiece for Series 1 and $300 apiece for Series 2. All courses are offered through Canvas Catalog and will be accessible for one year after registration.
