BSN Program - How to Apply

Before You Apply

• • Research our programs: Select the one that will best meet your educational and career goals. Our Next Steps page can help. Please note that applications and fees are not transferable among programs, and fees are nonrefundable.
    
    
  • Gather your application materials: Check the admission requirements page for our Pacesetter Accelerated BSN or RN to BSN option. All application materials must be received by the deadline. We are unable process applications with missing or incomplete documentation.
    
    
  • Know your testing code: 
    • Pacesetter Accelerated BSN applicants who completed all of their prerequisites at other institutions must take either the HESI A2 entrance exam or the TEAS exam.
      • For the HESI A2 Entrance exam, use Department ID 198326.
      • For the TEAS exam, select Cizik School of Nursing: TEAS.
    • These tests are not required for:
      • RN to BSN students
      • Students who successfully completed all science prerequisites offered through Cizik School of Nursing’s Pre-Nursing pathway and meet requirements to apply for direct admission to the Pacesetter Accelerated BSN program.

Please note that students admitted to Cizik School of Nursing must personally reside in the state of Texas before the first day of class. In addition, we are unable to sponsor students requiring F-1 visas.

Applying via NCAS

Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston uses the Nursing Centralized Application System (NCAS) platform for applications to both the Pacesetter Accelerated BSN and the RN to BSN options.

 Applicants must submit all documents to NCAS.

• • This includes the application, personal statement, résumé, and transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended. International applicants must submit TOEFL scores (if applicable).
    
    
  • If you have previous college coursework outside the U.S., you must submit official transcripts from all foreign institutions attended and course-by-course evaluations from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or Western Educational Services (WES).
    
    
  • The NCAS system will prompt you to provide names and email addresses for three references and will automatically send them the reference form for completion. 

NCAS charges an application fee.

Notification

Once an application is received, you will be assigned a seven-digit application ID and granted access to ApplyUTH, where you can track the status of your application materials. 

Once a decision is made, ApplyUTH is updated with the application status. If you are admitted, you will receive an email and a letter in the mail. If you are denied, you will receive a letter in the mail.

• • Q: Which entrance exams are accepted for the accelerated Pacesetter Accelerated BSN program?
    • A: Applicants to the Pacesetter BSN program must take either the HESI A2 Entrance Exam or the TEAS exam, unless they have successfully completed all science prerequisites offered through Cizik School of Nursing’s Pre-Nursing pathway and meet requirements to apply for direct admission.
      
      
  • Q: What is the time limit for test scores?
    • A: For Pacesetter Accelerated BSN students, the HESI A2 or TEAS must have been taken within two years of enrollment in the program. For international students, the TOEFL must have been taken in the past two years.
      
      
  • Q: I have submitted my official transcripts, but they are listed as incomplete in ApplyUTH.
    • A: The Registrar’s Office updates transcript status to “receive”' only when an official, final transcript has been recorded. If you have submitted a transcript with in-progress course work, it will be listed as incomplete, but the file will be forwarded to admissions for evaluation.
