Nursing Leadership Track at a Glance

The Nursing Leadership track at UTHealth is designed to help you master the concepts of organizational efficiency and effectiveness so you can advance nursing practice and improve our nation’s health care delivery system. Earn your Master of Science in Nursing from Houston’s top-ranked MSN program, or complete the Nursing Leadership curriculum on a post-graduate basis.

Collaborative and Clinical Excellence

Our Nursing Leadership students apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations through flexible practice immersion experiences. As a Nursing Leadership student, you may work with colleagues in any of UTHealth Houston’s seven schools. You will learn from preceptors in health care systems within the Texas Medical Center and across the state.

Flexible Nursing Leadership Education

Our hybrid Nursing Leadership track balances the convenience of online courses with the personal and professional benefits of in-class learning and networking with classmates and faculty. Classes meet in person using a virtual platform one day per month, which is scheduled well in advance.

Meet Our Track Coordinator

At Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, excellence begins with our outstanding faculty, like Associate Professor Deborah B. Cline, DNP, RN, CNL, OCN, NEA-BC. Dr. Cline earned her BSN, MSN, and DNP from Cizik School of Nursing and prior to joining the school, she served in clinical and management positions for many years at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, including a decade as associate director of nursing workforce planning and development.

Opportunities to Lead

The Nursing Leadership track at Cizik School of Nursing prepares graduates for managerial and administrative positions in acute care, outpatient, and community-based settings. Graduates are qualified to serve as clinical nurse managers, clinical or administrative nursing directors, and leaders in case management, quality improvement, and risk management. Some serve as Chief Nursing Officers in rural and suburban areas. If you are interest in pursuing a CNO position in a major metropolitan area, consider our PhD program or our Doctor of Nursing Practice Nurse Executive track.
