Educational Grant Highlights 2023

Currently Funded Studies

Maja Djukic, PhD, RN, FAAN, and D’Hania Miller, MSN, RN, have received a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation for the Advancing Visibility through Accelerated Nursing Curricula with Collaboration and Engagement (ADVANCCE) program. In collaboration with Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center nurse leaders, Houston Community College, and Houston Independent School District, this grant aims to prepare high school students pursue nursing education.

Kristin Ownby, PhD, ANP-BCP, and Erica Yu, PhD, RN, have received a grant from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER II) Nursing Innovation Grant program through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The grant funds the development of a robot-assisted preceptor support program, which will include continuing education opportunities specific to preceptors as well as access to a virtual support group to help reduce stress and avoid burnout among nursing preceptors.

Vuong Prieto, PhD, RN, and Brandi Virgin, MSN, RN, received the first Dean’s Innovation in Education Award to help nursing students gain the experience they need to manage multiple NICU patients with their proposal titled “The Implementation of a Neonatal Multiple Simulation in an Undergraduate Baccalaureate Nursing Program.” The project was also awarded the Zeta Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Research Grant Award.
