Criminal background checks are required to ensure the safety of patients treated by students in clinical education programs. All students must successfully clear the background check required by Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, and incoming Pacesetter BSN students must also complete a background/fingerprint check required by the Texas Board of Nursing (TxBON).

  • Cizik School of Nursing background check (all students)

    PreCheck, Inc., performs background checks on behalf of Cizik School of Nursing. The reports are typically completed within 3-5 business days.   

    PreCheck charges approximately $50.00* (plus applicable taxes) to be collected by PreCheck, Inc.  This process may be started on or after the following dates: 

    • Fall Term – June 1
    • Spring Term – October 1
    • Summer Term – March 1

    Cizik School of Nursing must receive your background check report from PreCheck no later 30 days prior to the start of the term, so please allow plenty of time for processing and review.

    Steps for requesting a UTHealth Houston background check

    Step 1: Go to the Precheck website. 

    Step 2: In the box at the bottom of the page, confirm that the school name “Cizik School of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth)” appears in the top dropdown mention. 

    Step 3: In the second dropdown menu, select “Nursing,” then check the “Background Check” box and click “Start Application.” 

    Step 4: Create an account, or log in with your username and password if you have an existing profile. 

    Step 5: Enter the required information, provide authorization, and continue to enter payment information.

  • Texas Board of Nursing background check (Pacesetter BSN only)

    Students accepted into our entry-to-practice Pacesetter BSN program must also complete a separate background check required by the Texas Board of Nursing that will ensure your ability to take the NCLEX licensure exam when you complete your educational program. If you previously completed this background check for a different school, you do not have to repeat it. 

    Watch for an email from IdentoGO, and immediately follow the instructions to register for the fingerprinting scan. Please refer to your acceptance letter or the TxBON FAQ for more information.

Q: How does PreCheck use my information?

A: Your information will only be used for the services ordered. Your credit will not be investigated and your name will not be given out to any businesses. 

Q: I selected the wrong school or program or made a mistake in submitting my information. What should I do? 

A: Please email StudentCheck@PreCheck.com with the details of your problem. 

Q: Can I get a copy of my background report? 

A: Yes, log in to the PreCheck website and select “Check Status.”

Q: I was denied entry into a program because of information on the report. Who can I contact? 

A: Call PreCheck’s Adverse Action hotline at 800-203-1654.
