The Simulation and Clinical Performance Lab (Sim Lab) at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston offers the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) training to meet pre-admission requirements and for recertification for staff, faculty, and students.

The certification process requires two steps to ensure that learners are well-prepared in both knowledge and practical skills:

  1. Complete an online educational module provided by AHA, then
  2. Complete an in-person, hands-on training in the Sim Lab.

Here's how to complete both steps:

Part 1: Online Modules

Registration:

  • Visit the AHA website and navigate to the HeartCode BLS course registration.
  • Register for the course online.
  • Pay the part one course fee of $34.00.
  • Access the online modules provided by the AHA: https://cpr.heart.org
  • Successfully complete all required online course modules.
  • Obtain a certificate upon the completion of the online modules from the AHA, which will be needed for the hands-on training.

Part 2: Hands-On Training and Check-Offs at Cizik School of Nursing

Schedule Hands-On Training:

  • After completing the online modules, schedule a hands-on training and check-off session at the Sim lab.
